Heroes, Villains, and Me: CW Supergirl’s New Costume

“Heroes, Villains, and Me” is a periodic article on Geeky KOOL by Larry Litle about the world of comic books and my reaction to it. “Heroes, Villains, and Me” is not a comic book review article. I will write about current events, speculation and rumors, or my own wacky thoughts about the world of comic books and related stuff.

Supergirl is changing her costume on the CW’s Supergirl series.  She is going away from the traditional skirt to pants (as seen above).  Her outfit is all blue except the boots, cape, and emblem.

I honestly don’t like this new look.  I understand that fighting in a skirt doesn’t make a ton of sense.  Pants on a superhero is way more practical than a skirt.  She would be flashing people all the time with a skirt.  But the skirt color broke up the blue and looked sharper than the pants.

Over the years, Supergirl has had various different costumes. Some of them were better than others and some hold up over time better than others.  Supergirl has worn shorts in with some of her different looks.  Below is one of my favorite looks of Supegirl with shorts.  I do love the small S on her chest.

In the comics, it is expected that a hero will change their costume on a regular basis.  They will go with a new look for a while but almost always they will eventually go back either to their original costume or a close iteration of the costume.

Spider-Man’s black costume is a great example. It was cool and different.  It was so in the groove with the time.  He stayed with the Black Costume for a few years.  He changed back after he found the black costume was an alien and became Venom.  He went back to the traditional red and blue tights.

I would rather her have Superman trunks on Supergirl than no red at all.  That is too much blue.  But that is just my opinion.

I might not love the new look for Supergirl.  I know I still love the character.  Costumes come and go.  More than likely, she will be back in the skirt soon enough.

Stay Geeky!
