Free Comic Book Day

Today is Free Comic Book Day (check out the link). For those unfamiliar with Free Comic Book Day, Comic Book Publishers set aside the first Saturday in May to give away specific comics. They give these comics away in a hope to attract more people to their products.  It is a way to promote the particular characters, book, and their company.

The companies sent these comic books to local comic book stores.  The local comic book stores give out the comics as a method to get new people into their stores. They also give out the free comics to get existing customers interested in comics they might not be currently reading.

As a fan of comic books, this is the best of both worlds.  I love comic books and enjoy expanding beyond the issues I am currently picking up.  I also love the word FREE.  I can try something new without feeling obliged to by a few issues of it before making a decision. If I like what I read, I can local comic book store to add the issue(s) I desire to get to my subscription.

It is usually very easy to add comics to a subscription. Most of the time, it can be as little as one comic book a month or as many as you want/ can afford. The comic store will need some basic information from you. They need a way to contact you and a method to hold the comics for you. They normally want you to pick up your comics at a minimum of every month. They will be ordering stock and holding it specifically for you so they need to know that you will come in and pay for your comic books so they can get paid.

Anyway, check out your local comic book store today for free comics.  If you don’t have one, then check here.  Some stores are better than others so if you know a comic geek, ask them where they shop. I will be stopping by my local store- Games, Comics, Ect (AKA Games To Order). They are located at 2746 S Campbell, Springfield, MO, 65807–(417) 831-4263.
