Dr. Strange Spoiler Free Review

Doctor-Strange-Comic-Con-Poster

So I went and saw the latest offering from Marvel studios tonight, Dr. Strange. This has been one of the more anticipated movies this year, because it was another “non core” Marvel characters being brought to the screen.  This was an excellent movie from start to finish, in that it told the Story of how Dr Strange became the Sorcerer Supreme, and the hard choices he had to make in order to realize that the way he had defined his life was simply an extension of his human ego.

Bennedict Cumberbatch plays Dr Steven Strange, one of the best neurosurgeons in the country before a traffic accident sends him down a path that changes his life. Cumberbatch NAILED the role, he is arrogant, emotional, stubborn, and even broken as the title character. Once again Marvel put the right actor into the right part.  Tilda Swinton plays “the old one”, and despite all the bad press from fans about an English woman playing an Asian male, she brought gravitas to the role.

This movie has everything going for it, action, comedy, drama…it uses the story of the metaphysical to showcase effects that work well and will remind viewers of the movie “Inception”.  The villains are more than cardboard cutouts, and help move the story forward in a positive way.

Cumberbatch gets to wear the cloak of levitation, and wears it well, there is even a bit of an Easter Egg concerning the Eye Of Agomotto, and how it ties into the larger Marvel movie universe.  There is the usual mid credit and end credit scenes. the mid credit one moves the larger universe forward, and the end credit one sets up Dr Strange 2 if they want.

The Preview trailers include Logan, Power Rangers, Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
